Giving Back Through Golf

We're now accepting charity event listings for 2010. Please send them to us by clicking here.

Why We Care
One the great positives about the game of golf is its unique positioning to raise funds for organizations that are in need of support. Whether it's a traditional golf scramble, 100-hole golf marathon, or something in between, amateur and professional golf impact charity more than any other sport.

MGL has been blessed to not just survive, but to thrive and grow over the last decade. One of the ways we like to show appreciation is to help support charitable events as best we can. In some cases we can come and play, provide prizes, or perhaps even broadcast from the event. In many more cases our assistance is limited to helping spread the word about the special events. Below, you will find a listing of the key organizations we currently support. If you have a charitable golf event to add to the listings, please visit the Contact Us page and send the info along!

THE FIRST TEE OF DETROIT TO HOLD FIRST ANNUAL

WALK-A-ROUND THE ZOO FUNDRAISER ON SATURDAY, JULY 31

(Huntington Woods, MI) – The First Tee of Detroit will hold their first annual Walk-A-Round the Zoo fundraiser on Saturday, July 31.  The family-friendly 3 mile walk will take place inside the grounds of the historic Detroit Zoo.  Registration begins at 7:00 a.m. and the walk will begin promptly at 8:30 a.m. The event is open to children and adults of all ages (sorry, no pets allowed).  You can make a difference by starting a team, joining a team, registering as an individual or simply donating to an individual or team.

A $20 initial pledge is required for each adult walker; $10 for children 17 and under.  Walkers are encouraged to raise additional money for the cause by soliciting pledges from friends, family, co-workers, businesses, etc.  Each walker will receive a commemorative t-shirt and all-day admission to the zoo at the conclusion of the walk (valid for July 31 only).

“This is a terrific grassroots event that everyone can be a part of and enjoy the day at the Detroit Zoo at the same time,” said Lisa Woodcox, Executive Director of The First Tee of Detroit.  “It will be a great way for the families, coaches and volunteers of The First Tee of Detroit to raise awareness and money to support a program that has been positively impacting the lives of thousands of children over the past 12 years through our golf and life skills program.”

Funds raised from the walk will allow The First Tee of Detroit to maintain quality instructors and volunteers, continue to use local and accessible golf courses and to make the program available to children at a minimal or no-cost fee.
